In this episode, Eric the Car Guy has a powerful thirst for ‘the Dew’.
@cov01crew This is by far the best comment on tis video, thanks for posting.
My daughter called me saying she was at the lake and my ’96 Taurus wouldn’t shift out of Park so she could drive home. I thought I vaguely remembered something about that very scenario being talked about in the Owner’s Manual. I told her to pull out the manual, and go through the checklist under “When Your Cart Won’t Start”. Sure enough, she got it started, drove home, and saved me a $200+ in towing and diagnosis.
@rwbishop There really is nothing better than the factory manuals, I’ve seen a couple of costumers walk away with service manuals with their cars, I think those are smart people. Thanks for your comment.
It’s a very good idea to read the owners manual cover to cover when you get a car… I bet <5% of folks do. I always get a set of factory shop manuals for my vehicles… my last 2 Hondas (both bought new), I successfully haggled them from the salesman. Even if you don’t plan on doing the work, you can bone up on it. Don’t leave them in sight if you go to the dealer, or they’ll think they’re theirs. Take them on road trips for ma pa shop to use. I could go on and on… they save in the long run.
@JFIdelH You don’t know what your missing.
lol i never knew my 94 accord lx had a backseat fold out hand rest in the middle seat, my bff told me haha, maybe cus i dont go in my back seat o.O
@ThePenguin360 I’m just happy you took the time to look, so may people don’t and suffer as a result. Thanks for your comment.
My owners Manual doesnt teach you how to even change the oil, infact they specifically say in it you are not aloud to touch anything under the hood that isnt colored in yellow. Although your right about the servicing guide.
@Geebuv I’m glad you like the videos, thanks for taking the time to post this great comment.
Ohhh sweetttt, im not the only one who did that car jack hook thing and used the bar to do 1/2 a turn at a time… I felt like a rocket scientist when i figured out the way its SUPPOST to work haha. BTW great videos Eric, i’ve been watching/subscribed for a few days now and seen a number of them and i think i learn something new in every one.
@sndd0138 don’t worry: this owner’s manual won’t go to the Smithsonian Museum ;D
@EricTheCarGuy thanks very much eric for the education!
@mobilove Cars that sit are subject to dry rot to all the seals on the engine and transmission which become brittle and begin to leak. In addition to that after a car sits for a period of time the lubricants settle out and leave the moving parts dry so when you go to restart it the wear is accelerated due to a lack of lubrication.
@EricTheCarGuy thanks for this video, eric! please what do you mean by “Try to drive the car more, cars that sit are worse off than ones that get driven hard every day.”? thanks
@AnUglyAmerican Thanks and thanks, I really appreciate it.
great advice…. btw love your videos
@sndd0138
get those dirty gloves away from that owners manual!
Those are good books however they weren’t written by the people that made the car. Believe it or not, it does make a difference. In other words if the Chilton told me one thing and the owners manual told me another I would go with the owners manual. I’m weird like that. Thanks for the comment.
Yes i do mistreat the owners manual, but i do have some backing because i have read a chilton and haynes manual for my truck =)
lol right
Lets hope it’s under warranty, at least you can prove you followed the maintenance schedule outlined by the manufacturer.
